In Bethesda, on Monday, August 18, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a house fire in the 4800 block of Broad Brook Drive.
A one-story ranch-style home had strong fire emanating from the living room and garage when workers arrived, and neighbors said that someone might still be inside, according to MCFRS spokesperson David Pazos. After a swift search, firefighters found an unconscious adult male. They helped him from the house, treated him for smoke inhalation, and took him to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators concluded that unattended microwave cooking in the kitchen was the cause of the unintentional fire. The estimated damage is $275,000. Two grown-ups were moved. There were working smoke alarms, and a neighbor who noticed smoke and dialed 911 was the first to report the incident. Shortly thereafter, the fire was contained.
