A two-story single-family house in Brookeville’s 1800 block of Dellabrooke Farm Lane, off Goldmine Road, caught fire on Thursday night. Several units and about 65 firemen from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded.
Firefighters confirmed an active fire in the basement at 10:47 p.m. after spotting smoke coming from the front entrance and the garage. To effectively control the fire, more suppression crews were sent in.
The basement was identified as the fire’s origin and source, involving floor joists and sub-flooring, and it was found to be an accident, most likely caused by electrical wiring, according to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer. The estimated damage exceeds $250,000.
When the smoke alarms went off, the five-member family—two parents, three kids, and a pet—safely left the house. The family has been forced to relocate due to the damage, but no injuries were recorded.
