Up to $300 in Energy Bill Assistance Available Through Pepco Relief Fund

Published On:

With funding from Exelon and management by The Salvation Army, Pepco has established a one-time Customer Relief Fund that provides qualified limited- and moderate-income customers in Maryland and Washington, D.C., with up to $300 in energy bill help.

According to Pepco: Pepco customers in the District of Columbia and Maryland can receive assistance with their energy bills through the Pepco Customer Relief Fund, which offers up to $300 in relief for qualified limited- and moderate-income customers. Pepco’s parent company, Exelon, made the fund possible by making a one-time payment to the Salvation Army, which would manage the monies on Pepco’s behalf.

According to Tyler Anthony, President and CEO of Pepco Holdings, “We are dedicated to supporting our customers and assisting them in maintaining their connection to the vital energy service we provide.” Pepco has strong ties to the community. While we continue to engage with state and local leaders to find long-term solutions, the Customer Relief Fund provides immediate relief from rising energy prices.

According to Major Wilma Mason, Area Commander at The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command, every individual and family in the District of Columbia should be able to live with respect and dignity, free from constant worry about basic necessities like how to keep their electricity on. The Salvation Army is happy to continue working with Pepco to make this vision a long-term, sustainable reality, and this Customer Relief Fund will go a long way toward achieving it today.

The operation of the Pepco Customer Relief Fund

Since consumers will likely face increases in energy bills due to rising energy supply costs as demand rises and supply cannot keep up with demand, Pepco and the Salvation Army are collaborating closely to bring significant relief this summer to Pepco customers with restricted and moderate incomes.

Customers with limited incomes who are currently enrolled in federal and state energy assistance programs and who have accrued at least $250 in arrearages over the previous 60+ days are eligible to apply for the fund. Customers with moderate incomes who satisfy specific income eligibility conditions can also qualify for assistance. Grants that are approved will be credited to the client’s Pepco account. Customers in the District can visit pepco.com/ReliefDC to apply or find out more. Customers in Maryland can visit pepco.com/ReliefMD.
