Bark Social
, the dog park, bar, and coffee shop hybrid that launched its first location at Pike & Rose in North Bethesda in February 2021, announced its immediate closure as of November 2024 after expanding to a total of five locations. In a recent development, We Love Pets LLC has agreed to purchase two Bark Social venues in Canton and Columbia Maryland for $500,000.
According to a report by the
Maryland Business Journal
, A Maryland bankruptcy judge approved the sale on June 17. We Love Pets LLC will acquire the two Baltimore-area businesses for $200,000 each, along with Bark Social’s affiliate, Dogcentric Ventures Inc., for $100,000.
The sale of the two locations in Canton and Columbia includes business assets such as intellectual property and customer lists, and it allows the new owners to assume the land leases. It remains unclear whether the dog parks will continue to operate under the Bark Social name. According to court records, Bark Social’s North Bethesda location at Pike & Rose was excluded from the recent sale at the landlord’s request and will be handled separately.
Neighbors who frequented the Pike & Rose location held a meeting earlier this year regarding bringing a dog park back to the community. “The North Bethesda community has experienced a loss with the recent closure of Bark Social, leaving a gap in local dog park amenities. We invite all residents and stakeholders to come together for an open discussion about current plans for dog parks in the area, as well as potential future locations to serve our furry friends.”
Residents are seeking assistance from county leaders to identify and advocate for temporary or permanent uses of underutilized public land near Pike & Rose. They are calling for a convening of relevant stakeholders– including county agencies, planners, and potential partners– to creatively explore potential paths forward, regardless of any legal entanglements. Residents believe that Bark Social, or a similar space in the area, would offer a safe and joyful environment for social connection, which is especially valuable as the region faces job losses and closures.
