Tractor Trailer Veers Off Road on I-495

Published On:

On the outer loop of I-495, between Georgia Avenue and Connecticut Avenue in Kensington, a tractor trailer with food items drove off-road and collided with trees on Friday afternoon.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the fuel spill that resulted from the incident on the ramp leading to Connecticut Avenue. MCFRS’s Emergency Medical and Integrated Healthcare Services (EMIHS) were on the scene assessing two patients, according to chief spokesperson Pete Piringer. To handle the fuel spill, MCFRS’s Hazardous Materials Unit was also called in. To help with the crisis, units A716, T726, PE707, and HM728 were on hand.

The tractor trailer went down an embankment off the right side of the road, according to a later update from Piringer. To lessen the spill, the HazMat crew was working hard on pumping off the fuel tank. Because of the continuous response activities, certain lanes on the ramp are still blocked.

While emergency personnel attempt to clear the scene and guarantee safety, drivers are advised to anticipate delays and think about taking alternate routes.
