The agreement to return the Washington Commanders to the city is still pending a vote by the D.C. Council. However, Prince George’s County, Maryland, politicians now realize that they must begin preparing for a time when football will no longer be played on the property where Northwest Stadium currently stands.
It’s crucial to keep in mind that the team still owns the approximately 200 acres of land that surround and include the stadium. The organization’s owners intend to maintain ownership of the site even after relocating to Washington, D.C., according to Prince George’s County Executive Aisha Braveboy, who stated that the county is collaborating with the Commanders on the next steps.
According to what I’ve been informed and our many discussions, they are dedicated to remaining in Prince George’s County and cooperating to develop that location, Braveboy stated. I believe they will stay true to their commitment and create a site that we can all be proud of in the long term.
By 2030, the organization hopes to resume football near the Anacostia River’s banks, providing the county and the locals who live close to the stadium ample opportunity to think about what the following phase might entail.
