After winning the Restaurant Association of Maryland’s best sandwich category in 2023 for its fried chicken sandwich, ISAAC’s Poultry Market has received yet another significant honor: Chowhound rated its Honey Butter Chicken Sandwich the finest chicken sandwich in Maryland.
Butter and honey are two examples of taste pairings that naturally go together. Perhaps this explains why Isaac’s Poultry Market’s Honey Butter Sand Chicken Sandwich, which is a recurring favorite among customers and is regarded by some as the best chicken sandwich on the East Coast, has been so successful. Given how fiercely competitive East Coast sandwiches are, that’s really saying something. Rob Gresham, a lifelong resident of Montgomery County and a former Director of Operations at CAVA, launched Isaac’s Poultry Market. With roasted chicken, wings, fried chicken sandwiches, salads, and frozen custard, the first establishment opened its doors in February 2023 at 12167 Darnestown Road in Gaithersburg.
While in quarantine with his 13-year-old son during the COVID-19 outbreak, Gresham had the idea. The eatery has the name of Sir Isaac Newton, who during the 1665 bubonic plague quarantine is credited with creating the principles of motion and gravity. According to Gresham, “We invented a chicken restaurant, he invented those things.”
Isaac’s added a second site at 15785 Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville earlier this year.
