Storm Cleanup Continues Following 170+ Reports of Downed Trees

Transportation crews in Montgomery County started clearing more than 170 complaints of fallen trees and debris obstructing roads after Thursday night’s strong storms. Recovery activities are concentrated on the most affected regions and will continue throughout the weekend.

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation’s (MCDOT) Highway Services staff are actively responding to over 170 reports of felled trees and storm debris obstructing County highways and public rights of way following Thursday evening’s heavy storms, the agency said.

MCDOT had received 174 storm-related service requests as of Friday afternoon. The Bethesda and Colesville regions, which had some of the worst damage, accounted for the majority of the reports. In an effort to clear roads and address all reports as soon as possible while maintaining safety, crews were sent out overnight and will be working throughout the weekend.

County Executive Marc Elrich stated, “Our crews responded quickly and are working diligently to clear roads and ensure public safety.” As hurricane recovery activities continue, we appreciate the patience of the public and encourage residents to report any remaining risks so that we can respond as soon as possible.

Residents can report fallen trees or debris on County-maintained roads and rights of way by submitting a service request online or by calling 311 Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (240-777-0311 if calling from outside the County).

“Safety and mobility are our top priorities,” MCDOT Director Chris Conklin stated. Emergency bottlenecks are being prioritized by crews, who will keep working until all concerns are addressed. We might occasionally have to come back later to finish the entire cleanup process.
