With a focus on issues like housing, education, and economic opportunity, and leveraging his experience as a small business owner, lawyer, substitute teacher, and community leader, Democrat Scott Goldberg has begun his campaign for one of the four At-Large seats on the Montgomery County Council.

According to the press release, Scott Goldberg launched his campaign at the Silver Branch Brewery in Silver Spring with more than 100 supporters for one of the four at-large seats on the Montgomery County Council. Yamil Hernandez, a member of the Gaithersburg Council; Rita Montoya, a member of the Board of Education; Cat Valcourt-Pearce, a longtime family friend who used American Sign Language to communicate with the audience; and his wife, Dara Goldberg, completed the introduction.

We cannot claim to be inclusive if we are not a reasonably priced place to live. The statement made by a Democratic voter with a flawless voting record that teachers do not have to be able to live in Silver Spring was the most heartbreaking thing I have ever heard during a campaign. It should be possible for educators to reside anywhere they choose. “Full stop,” Goldberg added.

If Goldberg is elected to the Council, his priorities will be to provide the best educational system in the world for teachers and students, expand housing options so that people can grow up, stay, move back, or age in place in the county, and build a thriving economy so that workers can reach and pass through the middle class.

In his professional life, Scott started a modest company with 20 employees that was financed by serving tables at the Austin Grill. He attended law school at night and is now an attorney as well. Scott joined Montgomery County Public Schools as a substitute teacher after his son’s class missed a day of class due to an illness involving their teacher and no other teacher could be located. He is involved in the community and sits on the boards of the Bethesda Chamber of Commerce, the Montgomery Parks Foundation, the YMCA of Silver Spring, and Mont. Co. Workforce Development.

Trade. In the past, he served as the chair of the Western Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board and the Montgomery County Democratic Party. His degrees include those from the University of Maryland School of Law and the University of Maryland, College Park.

Scott loves to play poker, go camping, and watch the Terps. He lives in Silver Spring with his wife, two children, and two rescued cats.
