In recognition of its accomplishments in planning, community involvement, and recreation services for cities with populations ranging from 30,000 to 75,000, Rockville has been selected as a finalist for the 2025 National Gold Medal Awards for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management.
Rockville is one of 27 agencies throughout the country that have been chosen as finalists for the 2025 National Gold Medal Awards for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management, according to the City of Rockville. In class IV, which comprises communities with populations ranging from 30,000 to 75,000, Rockville is one of four finalists. Bristol, Connecticut; Glenview, Illinois; and Oak Park, Illinois, are among the other finalists in the class.
The National Recreation and Park Association and the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration jointly present the awards, which honor communities that excel in environmental stewardship, long-term planning, resource management, professional and program development, and community involvement.
A panel of park and recreation experts chose the finalists based on their capacity to address community needs by fostering cooperation between citizens, employees, and elected officials. Rockville’s dedication to providing top-notch facilities, programs, and services that support inclusivity, wellness, and health is reflected in its inclusion.
Through 67 parks, three community centers, a regional swim and fitness center, senior and nature centers, four historic properties, a performing arts theater, and more than 3,000 programs offered each year, Rockville’s recreation and parks mission reaches all 67,000 residents of Rockville as well as thousands more in the surrounding area.
At the annual convention of the National Recreation and Park Association in Orlando, Florida, on Wednesday, September 17, the winners of each class will be revealed. Established in 1965, the Gold Medal Awards program recognizes state park systems and public park agencies nationwide.
