Retired Montgomery County Educator Claims $100K Lottery Prize

The Montgomery County individual purchased her ticket at Food Stop Mini, located at 4820 Boiling Brook Parkway in Rockville, according to the MD Lottery. She claimed her win at Lottery headquarters on August 15 and stated that her liking for the number 13 is what led to her $100,000 payout. The draw wasn’t the ticket per se. The ticket was located in the display case at position 13.

She went to her car and scratched the two tickets she had purchased. She recalls telling herself, “This can’t be right.” She couldn’t believe what she saw when she disclosed a 2X sign with $50,000, so she chose to return to the store and scan the ticket. The machine verified a $100,000 win, as expected.

Before traveling to Lottery headquarters to pick up the reward, she waited on the ticket for three weeks. After 23 years in the teaching profession, the winner has retired. Other than providing for her family, she has no intentions for her earnings. With a $1,000 bonus, or 1% of the jackpot, Food Stop Mini has even more reason to rejoice.

At the $100,000 level of the Double Your Money ticket, the Silver Spring instructor took home the first of 14 top prizes. Launched in July, the game is relatively new. Tens of thousands of lower tier prizes remain in the wild, along with two second tier wins at the $50,000 level and the 13 unclaimed top prizes.
