Purple Line More Than 80% Done

According to Purple Line Senior Project Director Ray Biggs II, the Silver Spring Spring Street Bridge, which is being rebuilt as part of the light-rail Purple Line, should reopen by the end of this year.

Biggs provided updates on the Purple Line development and reaffirmed that the project is still on schedule for a 2027 opening during a Purple Line grant event held in Takoma Park on August 8.

When finished, the 16-mile Purple Line will have 21 stops and link passengers to MARC, Amtrak trains and buses, as well as the Metro’s Red, Green, and Orange lines. Since its start in 2016, the public-private partnership project has seen multiple delays and cost increases.

The first Purple Line trains pulled into Prince George’s County last summer. According to Purple Line officials, the project is more than 80% finished as of late July, with 54% of its rail lines built.
