The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is looking into a deadly pedestrian collision that happened on Frederick Road near Derwood early on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
Godofredo Gonzales Zelaya, 46, was killed after he was struck by a car whose driver left the scene but was subsequently taken into custody for DUI. To find Zelaya’s family, police are asking for the public’s assistance.
The MCPD reports that detectives are requesting the public’s assistance in locating potential family members because they have been unable to find the deceased, Godofredo Gonzales Zelaya, 46.
MCFRS staff and officers from the 1st District arrived on the scene at around 12:54 a.m. in response to a report of a pedestrian being involved in a traffic incident.
According to CRU detectives’ preliminary investigation, the deceased was struck by a 2018 Honda Accord that was heading north on Frederick Road for an unidentified cause. After leaving the scene, the driver was eventually found by patrol officers and taken into custody for DUI.
At the scene, Zelaya was declared deceased. The probe is still ongoing.
