Over 200 Storm-Related Fire and Rescue Calls Reported in 2-Hour Span Thursday

Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to 600 events on Thursday, June 19, 2025, including 295 medical calls and 247 fire-related calls. Of these, almost 200 took place between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m., primarily involving downed wires and trees.

Trees fell on houses and cars in a number of occasions. A big tree in Takoma Park damaged a house in the 100 block of Elm Avenue close to Allegheny Avenue and tore off a gas meter, causing a gas leak and necessitating an evacuation. A tree fell on a bus and a passenger car at Connecticut Avenue and East West Highway. Although a number of people were assessed, no significant injuries were noted.

MCDOT Highway Services staff are responding to more than 100 complaints of fallen trees and debris throughout Montgomery County as a result of last night’s storms. Residents are being asked to report any problems by calling 311.
