Eater DC recently unveiled its list of “
The Best Bakeries Around D.C.
,” featuring standout destinations for “extra-crusty levain, flaky croissants, brioche doughnuts, baklava, cupcakes, French baguettes, and everything in between.” Among the bakeries recognized, Fresh Baguette and Boulangerie Christophe, which have locations in Maryland, were highlighted. However, only one bakery on the list originated in Maryland.
Sunday Morning Bakehouse, located at 11869 Grand Park Avenue in North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose, was founded by Chef Caroline Yi. A Montgomery County native, Yi attended Wootton High School and the University of Maryland at College Park. Her journey began at the Pike & Rose Farm Market, where her delectable creations quickly garnered a loyal following. Recognizing the potential of Pike & Rose as the perfect setting for her venture, Yi opened her brick-and-mortar bakery and café in October 2019.
Specializing in handmade croissants, seasonal breads, and pastries crafted from high-quality ingredients, Sunday Morning Bakehouse also offers a selection of coffee and beverages. Among their unique offerings is the “Espresso Martini Affogato,” featuring vanilla ice cream. The bakery is renowned for its flaky croissants, including decadent chocolate almond varieties, as well as savory options like their smoked salmon sandwich and quiche.
Patrons frequently commend their coffee selection, which includes expertly prepared espresso and unique drinks such as the lavender London fog. Despite its popularity and occasional weekend crowds, Sunday Morning Bakehouse is cherished as a local gem, offering a delightful culinary experience.
