On Saturday, June 29, at around 2:50 a.m., Frederick Police Department officers were called to the 1300 block of Mulberry Court in response to a report of a suspicious vehicle. The call came after someone was reported breaking into cars near Orchard Drive and Hillcrest Drive.
According to the Frederick Police Department, an officer tried a traffic stop after finding a car thought to be related to the previous complaint. The motorist went onto Mulberry Court, a dead-end street, without stopping.
The officer got out of his marked patrol car and started giving orders when the car came to a cul-de-sac. When the driver sped in the direction of the cop, the officer fired his service weapon. He fired four shots.
After being hit by gunfire, the car left the area. A short while later, officers found it empty in a nearby neighborhood. Neither the police nor any spectators were reported hurt during the confrontation, despite the fact that the vehicle exhibits damage consistent with gunfire.
Frederick Police Department General Order 0720, which specifies what to do after an officer-involved shooting, is being followed in the investigation of this event. As is customary, the involved officer has been placed on administrative leave.
