Neighbors Coffee Now Open, Brewing Community in Woodley Gardens

Published On:

A new community gathering place has arrived in Woodley Gardens, bringing with it a familiar face. The new café Neighbours Coffee, which was established by locals Spencer and Lulu Trach, has formally opened at 1101 Nelson Street, replacing the old Essex Bank building (see the video below).

For Lulu and Spencer, their endeavor represents a reunion. They both graduated from Quince Orchard High School and have known one another since their time at Ridgeview Middle School in Gaithersburg. A few years ago, they started their adventure in the coffee industry with a booth at the Kentlands farmers market. This side project turned into a full-fledged coffee store. His brother now works full-time alongside Spencer, who grew up in the Woodley Gardens neighborhood, in this family business.

There’s more to Neighbors Coffee than just a delicious cup of coffee. In addition to offering both indoor and outdoor seating, the shop has a handy walk-up window that makes it easy to grab a quick coffee on the run. They intend to serve local bakers’ creations on weekends to showcase their skills. Neighbors intends to include freshly prepared breakfast sandwiches to its menu in the future.

Currently closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, you can welcome them to the neighborhood and get a coffee at Neighbors Coffee on any other day between 7 am and 3 pm.
