Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethsda will launch a new Chess Lounge in Center Court on Saturday, July 19, in partnership with regional nonprofits, offering free instruction, tournaments, and community events every weekend through September to coincide with International Chess Day.

will debut a new Chess Lounge in the mall’s Center Court. Led by the Chess Alliance, a collaboration of regional nonprofits including
Chess Girls DC
, the
DC Chess Association
,
Big Chair Chess Club
, and LiveChess Club, this initiative offers a uniquely tailored third space to a community with outsized interest in ‘the game of kings.’
Timed to coincide with International Chess Day (July 20), the launch kicks off a multi-session event series every weekend through September. This community-first initiative invites players of all ages and levels to enjoy free instruction, open-play areas, mini tournaments, and guest appearances by chess masters.
Westfield Montgomery is transforming Center Court into an accessible and inclusive space that brings live, analog interaction back into community spaces.
