With the announcement that Sophie Segreti, a 31-year-old from Darnestown, Maryland, will be one of the castaways competing for the million-dollar prize and the title of Sole Survivor, local viewers will have a strong incentive to watch the upcoming 49th season of the popular reality show Survivor.

Segreti, a proud Quince Orchard High School alumnus, excelled as a student-athlete (diving & swimming). As a four-year letterwinner and two-year team captain, her commitment and leadership were clear. She made four appearances at the Maryland 3A-4A state championships, demonstrating her athletic abilities. Segreti received honors like the 2012 team MVP award, the 2011 Coaches Award, and the 2009 Team Most Improved Award in recognition of her dedication to her team and sport. When she transferred to Washington University in St. Louis, she was also a member of the school’s record-holding 200 medley relay squad.

In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Segreti was a standout student at Quince Orchard. She received the Scholar-Athlete honor and was continuously recognized on the Honor Roll for her four years. According to her Wash U bio, she was recognized as a National Merit Scholar commended student and a National AP Scholar, and her involvement in the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society further demonstrated her dedication to academics.

In the long-running reality television series Survivor, a group of strangers are split up into tribes and left stranded in a remote area. Every week, they elect a competitor off the island at a Tribal Council, and they must compete in challenges for rewards and immunity. A $1 million prize is awarded to the Sole Survivor, the only castaway still alive. On Wednesday, September 24th, a special two-hour edition of the 49th season of Survivor will air on CBS at 8 p.m. On Wednesdays, later episodes will be broadcast in a 90-minute format. Episodes are also available for streaming on Paramount+ after they air.
