Montgomery County native
Matthew “Diggy” Diggs
, a 2008 graduate of Damascus High School, just experienced a milestone moment in his short career as a barber that started just under two years ago. Recently selected to serve as the in-house barber in BET’s prestigious hospitality suite for the BET Awards, Diggs’ journey has been one of seizing unexpected opportunities.
Diggs credits his good fortune to a friend, musical artist Chris Bivins, who alerted him to the opportunity just two hours before the submission deadline. With little expectation, Diggs quickly crafted a pitch and submitted it. In an unexpected turn of events, three weeks later, BET contacted him with an offer for the gig, which included a stay in Downtown Los Angeles. “This week changed my life forever,” Diggs shared on social media, adding a heartfelt “Thank you, BET.”
Diggs is not only recognized for his quick rise behind the chair, but also for his commitment to his community. Last year, he and his wife, Amye Martinez-Diggs– a graduate of Richard Montgomery High School– launched The Showroom, Montgomery County’s only 24-hour mobile barbershop. Operating out of a classic 1969 camper, The Showroom was created to offer unmatched convenience, privacy, and personalized service for clients on the go.
“Being a husband and father, I understand the importance of flexibility,” Diggs explains. “That’s why The Showroom is available 24/7, allowing clients to book appointments that fit into their busy lives.” While the mobile barbershop primarily serves Montgomery County residents, Diggy and his team have extended their services to larger bookings, weddings, and events beyond the area, including a recent appearance at Northwest Field, home of the Commanders.
