Since August signals the conclusion of summer and the start of a new school year, it is an important month for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). Students, parents, teachers, and the community should be aware of the following important dates in August 2025:
Known as pre-service week, a set of professional days for teachers will take place from Monday, August 18, to Friday, August 22.
Student Transition Day, which falls on Monday, August 25, is a new event on the MCPS calendar. This complete, non-instructional school day is intended to assist kids get used to a new setting before the other students arrive. In order to facilitate a more seamless transition into the new school year, this day gives students the chance to get to know their new school, teachers, and classmates. This day is dedicated to:
pupils starting kindergarten, sixth grade, and ninth grade.pupils starting third grade at primary schools that exclusively teach grades three through five.any pupil who is new to MCPS or a school.
According to the conventional calendar, Tuesday, August 26 is the official beginning day of classes for all pupils. All MCPS students will resume their classes for the 2025–2026 school year on this day.
