Ten unexpectedly excellent eateries and takeout shops in gas stations across the United States have been listed by Yelp. Although Maryland is home to numerous fantastic gas station dining options, only one was included in Yelp’s national ranking of the top ten Don t-Miss Gas Station Restaurants for 2025.
Taco Bar El G ero, which has been a family-run business for more than 20 years, is situated at 10003 B Fields Rd in Gaithersburg. Taco Bar El G ero, which is well-known for its small-town, family-run charm, had a makeover in 2020. The new logo features Jose Valdivia, who is well-known to frequent customers. A sibling restaurant, Ixtapalapa Taqueria, opened in Gaithersburg in 2017, La Gula Mexicana opened in Germantown in 2021, and Mayan Monkey Brewery opened in Olde Towne Gaithersburg earlier this year as a result of the restaurant’s popularity.
Although it will just be a short distance away, Taco Bar El G ero will soon be moving and changing its name. Taco Bar El G ero is slated to relocate to the Downtown Crown development in Gaithersburg in September or October, taking over the location of the former BurgerIM and SmashBurger at 200 Ellington Ave. The restaurant will change its name to El Gero Mexicano in conjunction with the relocation.
According to Yelp, Jose and Teresa Valdivia have been selling delicious tacos for 20 years at this little stand in the back of a gas station, which is where their little Mexican food business in the Gaithersburg region started. Fans claim that they are still killing it today with excellent meals at an incredible price. Teresa is the cook, and she uses her Mexican City background to make well-seasoned tacos and salsas that don’t skimp on the toppings. This features the Yelper favorite Al Pastor, which consists of marinated pork slow-cooked with pineapple and onions and homemade adobo. According to daughter Mayte Velasco, who has been working with her parents since 2017, all the tastes combine and caramelize.
