In order to focus on growing its catering and online delivery services through its Gaithersburg site, the well-known Mackie’s Barbecue announced earlier this year that it will be closing its Clarksburg, Frederick, and Olney locations as of January 10. Owner Cam Makki has already disclosed plans for Mackie’s to return to Olney with a seasonal food truck, around six months later.
A seasonal food truck will be parked outside Johnson’s Florist and Garden Centers, which is situated at 5011 Olney-Laytonsville Rd., just across from Lone Oak Brewery, according to a statement that Mackie’s shared with us and on social media. There will be picnic tables, string lights, delicious cuisine, and a relaxed atmosphere at the new location. Although more information will be made public soon, their complete statement is available below:
Thousands of people have contacted me since my parents’ retirement, asking when I would return the items. To be honest, I wasn’t certain.
Being a one-man show is difficult, so we decided to sell off and reduce the size of our large family business, which included restaurants, bars, food trucks, beer and wine stores, etc. I kept our original Gaithersburg takeout and catering business in order to continue doing what I love and giving back to the community.
The appropriate chance recently presented itself, and for the first time in a long time, it felt like the right time to start growing again.
I’m thrilled to say that we will be returning to Olney, this time as a food truck, and will be parked at Johnson Farms directly across from Lone Oak Brewery. There will be picnic tables, string lights, delicious cuisine, and a relaxed atmosphere.
Remember, this is only seasonal. More information will be available soon.
