Identity of Victim Released in Monday Pedestrian Fatality

Investigators from the crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) of the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) are looking into a deadly crash that happened in Derwood on Monday, July 7, 2025.


According to MCPD, officers from the 6th District and Montgomery County Fire Rescue arrived at the intersection of Applewood Lane and Muncaster Mill Road at around 11:39 a.m. in response to a complaint of a pedestrian collision. The deceased, Joan Debra Voith, 69, of Derwood, was struck by a car as she was strolling along Muncaster Mill Road’s sidewalk.

According to the inquiry, Voith was struck by the driver of a brown 2017 Buick Envision who had driven over into the eastbound lanes of traffic and pulled off the road while she was out walking her dog. The Buick’s adult driver stayed at the scene.

CRU detectives are requesting that anybody who may have seen the collision phone (240) 773-6620 as this is an active and ongoing investigation.
