I-270 North Closed Due to Collision Involving Fire and Entrapment

Update: This incident is currently being investigated by Maryland State Police as a tragic wrong-way collision.A significant two-vehicle incident occurred on northbound I-270 between Middlebrook Road and Route 118 in Germantown at around 2:45 a.m., prompting the response of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS).

MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer reported that a car fire and entrapment were involved in the collision. Numerous fire and rescue units were among the emergency personnel sent to the location. Due to the incident, traffic is being diverted to Exit 15A and all northbound lanes of I-270 are currently closed. Two patients with potentially fatal severe injuries are undergoing evaluation.
