Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a lightning strike at 1700 Tweed St., close to Marshall Ave., in Rockville on Tuesday. Several units, including PE721, PE723, PE703, E705B, E718, AT723, PAT718, RS703, A721, BC704, and BC702, were sent to the scene near Twinbrook Parkway, according to chief spokesperson Pete Piringer.

A two-story single-family home was impacted by the lightning strike, Piringer explained in a later update. Luckily, the lightning only moderately damaged the structure, causing little to no fire extension. The home’s inhabitants safely evacuated after reporting hearing a loud boom and smelling smoke. One household was relocated as a result of the incident, but no injuries were recorded.

In order to evaluate and control the situation, protect the people, and stop additional damage, some 45 firefighters were on the site.
