Gluten Free Bakery to Close Permanently After Less Than Three Years

Published On:

Josephine Gluten Free Bakery has announced via social media that it will be closing permanently on July 31st. The bakery opened on October 22nd, 2022, taking over the space that was the long time home of Bone Jour.

The social media post, which can be seen in full below, cited the lease not being renewed as the reason for the closure:

After nearly 3 amazing years, our lease in Bethesda, MD, is not being renewed. Our last days at this location are approaching July 31st, and while it’s hard to say goodbye, we are so proud of everything we’ve built — with YOU.

Since October 2022, we’ve had the immense joy of serving a community that truly embraced us — not just in Bethesda, but far beyond. Over the years, we’ve welcomed thousands of customers from all across the country: from Miami to New York City, L.A. to Alaska — celiacs, food lovers, travelers, and locals who made Josephine part of their journey. 💛

We are deeply proud to have brought high-quality, gluten-free pastries and baked goods to the table — always crafted with care, precision, and purpose.

To our loyal customers: THANK YOU for your trust, your love, and your support.

And to our incredible team: your passion, talent, and dedication made Josephine what it is. You’ve poured your hearts into every detail — and we are endlessly grateful. We will miss working alongside you each day.

✨ What’s next?

We’re actively looking for a new space to welcome you again very soon. So please, stay tuned — this is just the next chapter.

Josephine is also open to new opportunities 🌱

As we plan for the future, we’re staying open to all business or partnership proposals to take Josephine to the next level — whether through:

🍞 An exclusive recipe license (IP)

🏪 A local or national franchise

🥣Commercialization of our proprietary gluten-free flour mixes — for retail or professional use

💼 Or the acquisition of a premium, recognized gluten-free brand
