Following a vicious stabbing incident that happened while he was out for a stroll with his little daughter, a father from Montgomery Village is facing a lengthy road to recovery. On the morning of July 31, 2025, Joseph Love Carter was stabbed close to the 18300 block of Lost Knife Circle. A GoFundMe page has been established by the community to assist him during his difficult time.
Carter said in a public Facebook post that he and his kid were out for a stroll when someone came up behind them. According to Carter, the attacker drew a knife and lunged at him after saying a few words. Carter moved his daughter out of danger, exposing himself to the attack, in a valiant display of maternal instinct. He said that before he could get some distance, he saw blood gushing from my body and landing on the ground.
The entire tragic occurrence was observed by the victim’s autistic daughter. Carter, however, was incredibly thankful and relieved that she was safe, stating that she somehow knew to flee and locate him. He wrote, “When I saw her running towards me, I was the happiest man in the world.”
At 9:04 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, officers from the 6th District of the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) arrived on the scene. Although there was no suspect in custody at the time, MCPD stated that one adult male had been hurt and that the investigation was still open.
With injuries that were deemed life-threatening, the father was taken to the hospital and had surgery right away. Carter disclosed that his insurance coverage constraints led to his recent hospital discharge, and he now confronts a challenging and drawn-out recuperation. He has had three surgeries already, and he is numb and has extensive nerve damage. He will need a year to recuperate, according to the doctors, and even then, he might not be able to use his body to its full potential.
The attack has made things even more difficult for him, who has been the primary caretaker for his two children for the past three years. He now needs someone to look after him. He is looking for help with his daughter’s medical bills, physical treatment, and—most importantly—psychological counseling because she witnessed the horror firsthand. The family is looking for community support to get them through the long and difficult journey that lies ahead. You may find the fundraiser here.
