Fatal Collision Shuts Down Connecticut Avenue, Investigation Underway

Published On:

A tragic collision happened at the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and Adams Drive in Kensington early in the morning.

Pete Piringer, the chief spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS), reported a single car collision at around 4 a.m. A person became stuck inside the car as a result of the collision, and rescue workers had to free them. A nearby pole and sign were damaged, and the victim suffered severe injuries as a result of the crash. The event initially resulted in the blocking of some lanes.

A traffic advisory was issued shortly after, at 4:37 am, by the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD), stating that southbound Connecticut Avenue was closed between Denfeld Avenue and Adams Drive. One individual was seriously injured, and rescue and fire personnel were on the site. Drivers were warned by authorities to avoid the region by looking for other routes.

At 6:13, MCPD gave a sobering update: someone has died as a result of the incident. As the inquiry into the event began, officials warned of a lengthy road closure and informed the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU). Connecticut Avenue is still closed for the investigation, so drivers are asked to use caution and think of other routes. At this point, no additional information has been made public about the crash’s cause or the victim’s identification.
