Extreme Heat Prompts Emergency Alert Through Monday, July 28

Montgomery County has issued a Heat Emergency Alert from Friday, July 25 at 8 a.m. through Monday, July 28 at 8 a.m., warning of dangerously high heat index values of 105ºF or more and urging residents to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses and protect pets.

These dangerously hot temperatures and heat index values could cause heat-related illness such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke.


County facilities, including


libraries

swimming pools




,


recreation centers




and


senior centers




are places to cool off during normal operating


hours.



Public locations such as indoor malls could also be utilized.

The Office of Animal Services will enforce

Anti Cruelty Conditions for Dogs and Other Pets


during this heat emergency. During a Heat Emergency Alert, outdoor housing for an animal as described in Section 3.0 is inadequate and additional measures must be taken to provide adequate cooling.

The additional measures must be approved by the Director of Montgomery County Animal Services Division.  During a period of extreme heat, pets must not be left outside unattended.
