According to the press release: Drew Morrison, a policy expert and longtime Bethesda resident, declared his candidacy for Montgomery County Council District 1 today. On June 23, 2026, the Democratic primary will take place.
The Trump Administration poses previously unheard-of risks to our community. According to Morrison, we require leaders that are familiar with our community, know how to accomplish goals in government, and are prepared to stand up for our principles. I have supported important political contests around the nation and worked at the state and local levels of government, serving on the front lines of our mission. Since I know that’s how we can best protect ourselves right now, I’m running to represent the area where I grew up on the Montgomery County Council in order to create well-paying employment, address the growing cost of living, hold our school system responsible for results, and provide infrastructure to suit our needs.
Morrison has the experience needed at this crucial juncture because to his history in county government. Morrison promoted significant policy reforms at the county and state levels while serving as a Legislative Senior Aide to former three-term District 1 Councilmember Roger Berliner (2006-2018). This included joining Montgomery County in the Vision Zero initiative to end traffic fatalities, establishing the country’s first County-level Green Bank to fund sustainable energy projects that create jobs, and safeguarding ratepayers and the environment during the Pepco-Exelon merger.
I’ve known Drew for a long time. “He is among the most intelligent, committed, experienced, and best human beings I have ever encountered,” Berliner stated. He will do a fantastic job serving District 1 and improving Montgomery County. I’m honored to support him.
Morrison enters this contest with a wide range of political and policy expertise, including:
-
Morrison and his spouse co-founded EveryDistrict, a political action group that collected more than $3.5 million for more than 250 Democratic state legislative elections in 12 states, with a special emphasis on flipping Virginia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, following the first Trump election.
-
Morrison, a specialist in planning and transportation, backed County initiatives to provide transit connectivity to employment hubs, including the recently constructed Great Seneca Transit Network between Rockville and Gaithersburg. Additionally, he oversaw a multi-million dollar portfolio of significant road, rail, transit, park, and economic development projects across the area.
