According to QSR Magazine, Donatos Pizza is poised for a major Mid-Atlantic expansion, with plans to open over 20 traditional and non-traditional sites throughout the Maryland and Virginia region over the course of the next two to three years.
The brand’s broader plan to expand its presence in the Atlanta and DMV (Detroit, Maryland, and Virginia) metro areas includes this strategic expansion. The first wave of new locations is slated for Northern Virginia, with initial franchise agreements targeting the Ashburn, Herndon, and Reston areas. It is anticipated that the first of these eateries would open by 2026’s first quarter. Red Robin in Germantown offers it locally, while no specific Maryland locations have been listed as of yet.
For pizza enthusiasts, the brand’s return to this area is an exciting event. The Ohio-based business Donatos is well-known for its Edge to Edge pizzas, which have a lot of toppings that extend all the way to the edge of the crust. Both conventional and unconventional sites will be included in this extension. Non-traditional locations are probably Donatos pizza-by-the-slice operations inside other venues, whereas traditional locations are the typical standalone restaurants.
Donatos pizzas are already available on the menu at a few Red Robin restaurants as part of their continuing cooperation with the restaurant chain. This collaboration has been a successful component of their expansion plan and has assisted in bringing the brand to new consumers.
