Dogfish Head Alehouse to Celebrate 20 Years, Highlights Plans for Potential New Locations

Published On:

The 20th anniversary of Dogfish Head Alehouse, situated at 800 W. Diamond Ave. in Gaithersburg, will be commemorated next month.

The Gaithersburg Alehouse is celebrating the milestone with a weekend-long event that includes a 20th Anniversary Extravaganza on Saturday, September 20, which will include live music, beer tents, yard games, anniversary merchandise, and limited-time food specials, and a Pint Night Kickoff on Friday, September 19, where guests will receive a free 20th-anniversary pint glass with the purchase of a dinner entry.

Viswanath Vasireddy, a DMV-based restaurateur whose hospitality group also owns a number of restaurants in Virginia, including Clarity in Vienna, Copperwood Tavern in Arlington, Bamboo Garden in Herndon, and Aura Ashburn Indian Food Paradise, purchased the Gaithersburg Alehouse from its original owners in 2024. We have been informed that the restaurant has been upgraded and renovated under the new ownership.

Under a license from Dogfish Head Brewery in Milton, DE, Dogfish Head Alehouse runs on its own. Founded by Sam Calagione in 2005, the brewery became well-known for its high-alcohol beers made with unusual ingredients including pumpkin and chicory. The Boston Beer Company, the company that makes Samuel Adams, combined with Dogfish Head in May 2019.

Talks with possible landlords are presently taking place as part of plans to bring the Dogfish Head Alehouse brand back to Northern Virginia. Dogfish Head Alehouse operated outposts in Fairfax (13041 Lee Jackson Memorial Hwy) and Falls Church (6220 Leesburg Pike) under the previous management; these locations closed in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

The 800 W. Diamond Ave. location was once Pat & Mike’s, Il Costello, and West Diamond Grille before it was converted to Dogfish Head Alehouse.
