Direct Connection Between Maryland and Virginia Begins June 29th, per WMATA

WMATA has announced that a direct link between Virginia and Maryland will soon be available from King Street to Suitland via National Harbor. This new bus route will allow you to avoid several transfer stations starting on June 29. Visit wmata.com/BetterBus to learn more.

Metro’s endeavor to enhance regional bus service is called Better Bus. Metro’s new bus system will debut on June 29, 2025. This is the first significant change in fifty years. The network was finalized using your suggestions, and Metro’s Board of Directors gave its approval.

On June 29 and June 30, respectively, Montgomery County Ride On and Prince George’s County The Bus will also be undergoing service changes. Visit the WMATA sFAQ site for additional information and facts. More details are also provided below:

How New Routes Are Named

Every bus route will have a new name. To identify the area served, routes will start with a letter:

  • A for Arlington/Alexandria
  • C (crosstown) or D (downtown) for DC
  • F for Fairfax City, Fairfax County, and Falls Church
  • M for Montgomery County
  • P for Prince George s County
  • Limited-stop Routes are indicated by an X at the end of their names
