Details of a dramatic rescue operation near the intersection of Bradley Blvd and Mercy Hollow Ln in Bethesda on Thursday afternoon were shared on social media by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS).
Emergency units, including BC703, SA700, E733, SW731, 730, 730B, and A733, responded to reports of a vehicle in trouble due to significant flooding at around 4:45 PM, according to MCFRS. When County Police, who were more than 200 feet away, spotted a second car completely buried in the floodwaters, the situation rapidly deteriorated.
Responders saw an 8-year-old child perilously perched on the roof of the submerged automobile, which increased the urgency of the situation. A 2-year-old child and an adult female were still trapped inside. Six citizens were safely rescued from the dangerous circumstances by the MCFRS Swift Water Rescue crews, who responded quickly and efficiently.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel responded to a hazardous flooding incident near the intersection of Mercy Hollow Lane and Bradley Boulevard this afternoon. When County PD, communicating from more than 200 feet away, informed our teams of a second, fully submerged vehicle, what had previously seemed to be a single vehicle in danger swiftly became more serious.
Responders saw an 8-year-old child standing on the roof of the submerged automobile in a heart-stopping moment. A 2-year-old and an adult female were still trapped inside. Six citizens were safely pulled out of potentially fatal situations thanks to the quick and well-coordinated actions of our Swift Water Rescue crews.
