Dan Quinn Rules Out 12 Players For Monday Night Football

Published On:

When the Washington Commanders play the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football in their second preseason game, a number of important players will be sidelined. Many rookies and players on the bubble now have a chance to earn a spot on the 53-man roster thanks to the decision.

The absence of a number of well-known players from the Commanders offensive will reveal the depth of the group:

QB Marcus Mariota: With Mariota recovering from an injury and Jayden Daniels probably playing little, Josh Johnson and Sam Hartman will be the main contenders for the third quarterback position.WR WR Noah Brown & Terry McLaurin: McLaurin, who was activated from the PUP list today, has not gone back to practice and is still negotiating a deal. Brown’s injury is still not fully healed.TE Zach Ertz: Ben Sinnott and Colson Yankoff, two tight ends, will get the opportunity to demonstrate their skills as possible backups while the veteran is out.LT Tunsil, Laremy, RG Sam Cosmi and LG Brandon Coleman: Due to a knee injury sustained during the playoffs last year, Cosmi will not be able to start the season. The coaching staff will have an opportunity to observe how the offensive line performs under pressure during a live game, as it will primarily consist of backups and rookies.

Several important starters and recently signed veterans will also be out for the defense:

DE Javontae Jean-Baptiste: The group will have an opportunity to assess the defensive end’s depth.LB Bobby Wagner and Edge Von Miller: The attention will shift to younger linebackers and pass rushers vying for playing time due to the senior superstars’ absence.LB CB and Jordan Magee Jonathan Jones: Magee’s injury prevents him from taking advantage of another chance. Jones has appeared well in camp and is a veterinarian.
