Community Rallies to Support Family of 10-Year-Old Kasey Zachmann, Who Passed Away Last Week After a Five Year Battle With Cancer

According to the Lilian Foundation, 10-year-old Kasey Zachmann of Chevy Chase died quietly on August 16, 2025, following a fight with an aggressive form of Medulloblastoma that lasted more than four years. A SpotFund fundraiser is currently being used by the community to generate money for her burial and funeral.

Kasey was diagnosed at age five, according to the Silver Spring-based Lilabean Foundation, which also notes that she underwent numerous operations, craniotomies, chemotherapy, radiation, and clinical trials during that time. Kasey’s brightness remained bright throughout it all. Everyone around her was impressed by her dedication, generosity, and love of music. Although Kasey fought valiantly, her battle was cut short due to the dearth of therapy choices for children with brain cancer.

According to theSpotFund fundraiser, Kasey’s tale is told by organizer Julie Moore:

Five-year-old Kasey Zachmann received a diagnosis of an aggressive form of medulloblastoma in June 2021. She has undergone innumerable surgeries, treatments, radiation treatments, chemotherapy, and clinical trials for the last four years. Doctors informed the Zachmanns on June 23 that they were running out of time. Now, the family must arrange a funeral and burial for their 10-year-old child—something no parent should ever have to do.
