According to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, veteran offensive tackle George Fant is inking a contract with the Washington Commanders. Fant, 33, visited the team last week, which prompted the move. Since the visit, the two parties have maintained communication, which is how the stated agreement came about.
The Commanders now have a seasoned lineman who can play either tackle position thanks to the addition. Fant has played 101 games and made 75 starts throughout his time with the Texans, Jets, and Seahawks. Before being cut loose in March 2025, he participated in just two games for the Seahawks in 2024, his most recent stint. Fant’s professional history includes a season with the Texans in which he started 13 games and a three-year stretch with the Jets in which he started 36 of 37 games.
Fant offers insurance and versatility at both positions, even if the team already selected Josh Conerly Jr. to compete with Andrew Wylie at right tackle and traded for Laremy Tunsil to be their blindside protector. In 2016, Fant, a native of Western Kentucky, was an undrafted free agent.
