In her announcement of her campaign for County Council District 1, Board of Education President Julie Yang highlighted her background in public service and her intentions to use the county’s public funding scheme to support education, economic development, and community support.

According to the press release, Julie Yang, a lifelong Montgomery County citizen and community activist, declared her intention to run for Montgomery County Council (District 1) today, highlighting her track record of successfully tackling difficult issues and providing outcomes for locals.

To get Montgomery County back on track, I’m running for the County Council. “Bold leadership that has already tackled difficult issues, had difficult conversations, and made informed policy decisions within our County is what Montgomery County needs,” she said.

Julie has outlined her goals for the county’s future, which include fostering a resilient workforce, maintaining the quality of our schools, assisting companies in expanding, and providing support to the people who have chosen to call our town home.

Julie Yang stated, “My goal is to contribute to the development of Montgomery County into a prosperous center of economic opportunity and educational excellence that we can all rely on.”

She also underlined how important local leadership is when drastic changes are made to federal policy.Additionally, Julie Yang added, “I am running to defend our values at a time when the federal government is destroying social programs that are a lifeline to many, terminating federal jobs, and rolling back civil rights protections.”

Julie’s candidacy benefits from her vast background in public service and community leadership. She founded a non-profit, is an advocate for the community, and serves on the Montgomery County Board of Education. She has lived in Montgomery County for more than 20 years with her spouse, Wen, and they have raised two children here.

Making Montgomery County a place where everyone has an equal chance to realize their full potential, as my family did, is my mission as your next council member. I was able to help my neighbors and vulnerable populations get the services they require because of this community. Julie Yang said, “I’ve demonstrated that I can lead through our county’s most difficult challenges, and I’ll deliver results on the County Council.”

In an effort to elevate the voices of regular county citizens and families, Julie Yang is taking part in Montgomery County’s campaign public financing program.
