When the BMW Championship was last held at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills in 2021, spectators were treated to a six-hole playoff match between Patrick Cantlay and Bryson DeChambeau, which Cantlay ultimately prevailed in.

Officials from Baltimore County and Maryland anticipate a similar level of enthusiasm and turnout when the FedEx Playoffs’ penultimate leg returns to Caves Valley this week. World No. 1 and current British Open and PGA champion Scottie Scheffler, Masters winner Rory McIlroy, and U.S. Open champion J.J. Spaun are among the top 50 golfers in the FedEx rankings who qualified for the BMW Championship.

Abigail Vitaliano, deputy director for Baltimore County’s Department of Economic and Workforce Development, stated that over $23 million was spent locally during the nearly week-long event in 2021, which brought over 100,000 visitors to Caves Valley. According to her, the event created more than $53 million in statewide economic effect and supported at least 450 employment with over $20 million in labor income.
