Howard County Government and Police have announced the closure of Main Street in Historic Ellicott City as a result of significant rainfall and reports of water beginning to flood the roadway.
In response to the developing situation, the Outdoor Tone Alert System has been activated to warn residents and visitors. Authorities are urging anyone in the area to seek higher ground immediately for their safety. Stay tuned for further updates as the situation unfolds.
“The US National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington (NWS) has issued a Flash Flood Warning for East Central Howard County, including Elkridge, until 9:15PM today, July 14. Historic Ellicott City is not included in this Flash Flood Warning at this time. According the NWS, between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 3.5-4.5 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area.
