On Sunday afternoon, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a townhouse fire in Germantown, located off Crystal Rock Drive in the 13100 block of Diamond Hill Court. The end-of-row, two-story townhouse had a fire that started with a broken external air conditioner and spread up the vinyl siding to the second floor and roof.
In temperatures close to 95 degrees Fahrenheit, about 50 firefighters arrived on the site. All residents were successfully evacuated, no injuries were recorded, and only one person was displaced as a result of the event, according to MCFRS spokeswoman Pete Piringer. The structure sustained minor to severe damage as a result of the fire. After putting out the visible fire, workers carried out overhaul operations to look for any lingering hotspots or fire extension.
