Maryland is home to a single Cook Out location, located at 1115 S Salisbury Blvd in Salisbury, MD. This standout fast-food destination draws visitors from near and far. On our way from Rockville to the beach in Ocean City, we stopped by for a snack. Our drive took approximately 2.5 hours, departing Rockville at 10:00am on a Monday and arriving by 12:30pm (photos below).
Originating in Greensboro, North Carolina, Cook Out has cultivated a loyal following thanks to its extensive, affordable menu and distinctive operating style. Its Salisbury outpost, strategically located in a college town and serving as the only Cook Out in Maryland, has become something of a culinary landmark.
The Salisbury location opened in the summer of 2014, introducing the Eastern Shore to Cook Out’s offerings. Its popularity stems from its extensive, budget-friendly menu. The menu features a wide range of items– from grilled hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, and chicken sandwiches to North Carolina barbecue and quesadillas. A signature favorite is the “Cook Out Tray,” which combines an entree, sides, and a drink into a very affordable deal.
Beyond the savory options, Cook Out is renowned for its staggering selection of milkshakes, appealing to a broad array of tastes. Quick service and extended late closing times make the Salisbury Cook Out particularly attractive, especially for college students and diners in search of a satisfying, inexpensive meal– even during latenight hours.
Our visit was just to check out the restaurant and order a light snack on the way to the beach. The modest $6.99 Cookout Jr. Trey we ordered featured a Cookout Style Cheeseburger, a chicken quesadilla, a walking taco, and a Cheerwine to drink. While the food might not have been extraordinary, it was more than adequate to satisfy a craving– and its value is tough to beat. A photo of a larger order from a previous visit can also be seen below.
