Maryland Bay Bridge Lane Closures and Best Time Travel This Week and Labor Day Weekend

The following details about lane closures and the optimal times to cross the Bay Bride this coming week and over Labor Day weekend have been released by the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA).


According to MDTA, for preservation and maintenance purposes, the westbound span can be closed on Sunday from midnight until five in the morning. While the entire westbound span is closed, two-way traffic will be allowed on the eastbound span.

For preservation and maintenance purposes, the eastbound span can be closed Monday through Wednesday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day. the eastbound bridge deck reconstruction project’s nightly closures. Find out more here.During the complete eastbound span closures, two-way traffic will be allowed on the westbound span. For preservation and maintenance purposes, one lane of the westbound span can be blocked Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Lane closures are not planned for August 28–September 1. During the Labor Day holiday, the following are the ideal times to cross the Bay Bridge:


  • Thursday, August 28

    before 11 a.m. and after 9 p.m.

  • Friday, August 29

    before 10 a.m. and after 9 p.m.

  • Saturday, August 30

    before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m.

  • Sunday, August 31

    before 11 a.m. and after 6 p.m.

  • Labor Day Monday, September 1

    before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.

If the weather permits, all work will be completed. The MDTA advises drivers to use caution when driving and to heed all lane-control signals and traffic-control devices. On the bridge, headlights must always be on. Lane closures can change at any time, and the duration of closures depends on a number of factors, including traffic loads.
