One restaurant stands out as the only one to get a significant international award for Italian food in a state known for its diversified culinary landscape.A famous Italian food and wine journal called Gambero Rosso once gave a forchetta (or fork) to Il Pizzico, a long-standing Italian restaurant located at 15209 Frederick Rd. in Rockville, Maryland. You may watch a video of the experience below.
Owner Enzo Livia’s cooking philosophy is reflected in the moniker Il Pizzico, which means “the pinch.” His method is based on real Italian recipes, which are then infused with his own special blend of herbs and spices to give each meal a distinctive flavor. Due to consumer demand for a sit-down dining experience, the establishment, which began as a modest deli more than 30 years ago, swiftly expanded into a full-service restaurant.
Il Pizzico’s expertise in authentic cuisine, ranging from homemade pastas to a diverse assortment of seafood and meat dishes, was recognized by Gambero Rosso, a publication that compiles lists of the top Italian restaurants across the globe. Particularly recommended by the book were the restaurant’s tortelloni with porcini mushrooms and the traditional cacio e pepe.
As one of the greatest Italian restaurants in the Mid-Atlantic, Enzo and Sandra Livia have been serving countless patrons for more than 30 years while upholding a family-like ambiance and constant quality. Below is a summary of two visits by our very own Mr. MoCo Alex Tsironis:
