Following a collision on the Capital Beltway early Thursday morning that wounded a trooper during a traffic check, Maryland State Police arrested a 42-year-old man from Anne Arundel County for driving under the influence.

The accused, according to the authorities, is Fort Meade, Maryland resident Damien Arnold Haman, 42. Haman faces numerous traffic-related allegations, including driving while intoxicated, dangerous driving, and negligent driving. Haman was taken to White Oak Medical Center, which is part of Adventist HealthCare. He was taken to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections after being discharged from the hospital. Haman was the only passenger and driver of the silver Dodge Charger that was involved in the collision.

A Maryland State Police College Park Barrack trooper stopped a blue Lincoln on the inner loop of I-495 close to Route 1 at 12:47 a.m. A second trooper showed up during the traffic stop and parked his car right behind the first trooper’s. The emergency lights were on in both cop cars.

According to the preliminary investigation, Haman’s Dodge Charger rammed the back of the second trooper’s vehicle while the trooper who started the traffic check was standing behind the Lincoln. The first trooper was pinned between his car and the Lincoln as a result of the crash’s cascading effects. The trooper managed to break free and leave the scene of the collision. After receiving treatment at the University of Maryland Capital Regional Medical Center, he was discharged after being taken there by ambulance. There were no injuries to the second trooper.
