As a thank you to his family, the father of a 12-year-old kid who was saved from a flash flood in Bethesda last week has given $10,000 to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS).

Six individuals, including a 2-year-old and an adult female, were rescued by MCFRS units on Thursday, July 31 at the intersection of Bradley Blvd and Mercy Hollow Ln, including Selva Jayaraman’s son. The situation swiftly escalated from a single automobile in difficulties to a more serious one.

Montgomery County Police reported a second fully submerged car to responding units. Responders witnessed a heart-stopping scene in which a 2-year-old and an adult were still trapped in the second car, and an 8-year-old boy was standing on the roof.

All six individuals, including Jayaraman’s son, were successfully removed from the potentially fatal situation due to the quick and well-coordinated actions of the MCFRS Swift Water Rescue teams. Jayaraman donated $10,000 to MCFRS on Sunday, describing it as a modest way to show his family how grateful he is for the valiant rescue efforts.
