Watkins Mill Cluster to Host Third Annual Back-to-School Block Party

Published On:

The third annual Cluster Block Party, which will once again take place in the evening, is being planned by the Watkins Mill Cluster. Montgomery Village Middle School, situated at 19300 Watkins Mill Road, Montgomery Village, will host the community-focused event on Friday, September 19, from 5-8 p.m.

There will be a variety of resources and activities for everyone at this year’s block party. Along with entertaining games and delectable food, guests can anticipate a lively atmosphere featuring a DJ and live performances. Additionally, the event will include free haircuts, gifts, and access to a range of community resources in an effort to help the local community.

A major project of the Watkins Mill Cluster’s shift to a Community Schools model is the event. Roy Liburd, the principal of Montgomery Village Middle School, says the block party is a chance to demonstrate how the schools are rethinking how we interact with our family.

According to Principal Liburd, our goal is to unite the community and foster a feeling of community among all of our stakeholders. The purpose of the event is to draw attention to the abundance of resources in the Village, and he stresses that schools should act as resource centers.

The Watkins Mill Cluster’s seven schools have all been recognized as Community Schools. For kids and their families to succeed, this model offers essential academic, extracurricular, mental health, and health support services. The Community Schools initiative seeks to address the critical needs of kids and caregivers while promoting equity by emphasizing restorative practices, mental and emotional health, and family engagement.

In order to honor its schools and take advantage of all the free events and services the block party has to offer, the Watkins Mill Cluster is excited to welcome its incredibly varied neighborhood.
