$30,000 Win for Gaithersburg Woman on Loteria Scratch-Off

One of two winners to claim the prize on August 1 at Maryland Lottery headquarters was a Gaithersburg woman who bought her ticket at Germantown Wine and Beer on Frederick Road and won the $30,000 top prize on the $3 Loteria scratch-off game. The full narrative, provided by MD Lottery, is below:On August 1, two strangers—one from North Carolina and the other from Montgomery County—arrived at lottery headquarters to claim $30,000 in top prizes from the same $3 game, Loteria, in an odd coincidence.

Four of the initial eight top prizes have been taken in the months since the game’s December 28, 2023, launch. Then, on August 1st, two individuals coincidentally claimed within minutes of one another, reducing the number of top prizes left to two. They both decided to be anonymous. With a sister by her side, a woman from Gaithersburg purchased her winning ticket at Germantown Wine and Beer, located at 19590 Frederick Road. They immediately scratched the ticket, saw it was a winner, and then slipped out. The winner has kept the huge win a secret from everyone except her sisters.

She expressed her happiness with the money, saying it allows her to have a nice supper with her family and perform a financial reset.”It’s pretty cool because it’s something you didn’t have yesterday,” she added.

The other winner, a woman from a Fayetteville, North Carolina, suburb, purchased her ticket at Keller’s Market, located at 15624 Livingston Road in Accokeek, while she was in Prince George’s County visiting relatives. The winner, who rarely plays the lottery, chose to purchase tickets for a sick relative who likes to play as well as for herself, which made the win depressing. She drove back to the store and requested the clerk to examine the ticket after scratching it and realizing it was a winner.”Be sure to sign the back,” she advised the winner.

She stated that she had no definite plans for the prize money at the time of her reward claim.

Keller’s Market and Germantown Wine and Beer both get a $300 bonus, which is equivalent to 1% of the game’s total reward.
