Anonymous Winner Claims Virginia Record $348 Million Lottery Jackpot and Immediately Reveals First Purchase

On Thursday, the Virginia Lottery declared that an unidentified winner from our neighbor, Virginia, has officially claimed the biggest jackpot in the history of the state. Lottery officials at their Richmond offices were shown the sole winning ticket that won the $348 million Mega Millions jackpot in the June 27 game.

The winner’s post-jackpot preparations, which included a surprisingly useful first purchase—a zero-radius riding lawn mower—attracted a lot of attention.

The winning ticket, which was sold at E & C Mid Atlantic, 14878 Northumberland Highway in Burgess, Virginia, matched all six numbers (18-21-29-42-50, Mega Ball: 2). Instead of receiving yearly payouts over 30 years, the winner, whose name is protected by Virginia law, opted for instant financial freedom by selecting the one-time cash option of $155.6 million before taxes.

Virginia Lottery Executive Director Khalid R. Jones stated, “We are thrilled for our newest winner, and this is an incredible moment for Virginia.” It serves as a reminder that anyone, anywhere in the Commonwealth, can experience a victory that changes their life.

Jones visited the winning store on July 22 to give Juan Torres, the Vice President of Operations for E & C Mid-Atlantic, a $50,000 bonus check in celebration of the historic sale. Since the game’s launch in 2002, this historic win represents the tenth time a Mega Millions jackpot has been won in Virginia. It also emphasizes how much the Virginia Lottery contributes to the state. Over $901 million of the Lottery’s proceeds from Fiscal Year 2025 went directly toward K–12 education, covering about 10% of Virginia’s overall K–12 school budget.
